I, Tanit-Isis, of Tanit-Isis Sews,

Self-Stitched September

… do solemnly swear I am up to no good…

oh, wait, wrong narrative.

As if you didn’t know, Zoe is starting it again.

I, Tanit-Isis, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-March 2011. I endeavour to wear exclusively self made items (excepting underwear, socks, hat/gloves/scarves, and possibly sweaters) each day for the duration of March, 2011.

I’ve been doing the one-me-made-item-per-day thing pretty much successfully since August, but Self-Stitched September, while successful, was a bit boring and repetitive. I can’t promise completely that this will change this time ’round, especially since most of my recent creations have been pretty, ah, whimsical, and I spent a lot of the fall making coats, which takes a lot of time for comparatively few garments, but I’ll give it a try and it’ll give me a bit more of a prod to wear the circle skirts and 70s dresses out and about, and with luck the weather will even be cooperative for this by then. If I’m smart I’ll whip up another sweater or two before then (maybe even that smaller shrug I was talking about), since I still only have the one wrap, and I accidentally snipped a little hole in it while I was making my last pair of jeans (cry!). But this time around I should have my jacket situation all stitched up, at least.

March will also mark my first blogiversary, believe it or not. I’m kinda amazed by how many of my favourite blogs out there are similarly new (and often wildly more successful, though I’m pretty happy with my little corner here and should thank you all more often for your visits and your delightful comments. Comments are my crack.)… I wonder if it’s a sign of the explosive growth of sewing blogdom, or an indication of the short lifespan of blogs. I’m hoping the former ;).  It seems fitting to pass the month of my blogiversary stretching my “wear my sewing” muscles again :).

… And we just spent five hours in the Urgent Care unit failing to find out if Tyo has appendicitis. Bleargh. They want to see her again in the morning, assuming she doesn’t get sicker overnight, in which case we have strict instructions to hightail it to the Children’s Hospital. So, er, yeah, no sewing happened today…

  1. comments are everyone’s crack 🙂 (well i know they’re my crack as well, it seems we can extrapolate an N of 2 into everyone!) yikes, appendicitis?! that stinks! i was about Tyo’s age when they thought i had it (was a bad virus, turns out) but i remember having to do a jump test. they made me jump up off my toes and land on my heels. it was HORRIBLE. i hope they didn’t do that to her and i hope it turns out to be something less dire.

(btw i will some day work up to your all me-made clothes for a month, but not in time for march…..unless you want to come and make me some skinny jeans!)

    • LOL. Are you implying we aren’t a statistically significant sample?

Yeah, jump test, urine test, blood test… And were supposed to go back again tomorrow. It doesn’t SEEM like appendicitis, but whatever it is is a crap load of abdominal pain. That seems to get worse when she eats. 😦

    • Also, Jalie 2908, all the deets on how to alter it are in my PR review 😉

  2. I should probably do this, though I can’t think of any store-bought clothes I wear regularly… Hmm… I tried SSS but taking a picture every day drove me nuts. Might be easier this time around.

So sorry to hear about Tyo, sending out waves of positivity your way.

    • I find the pictures hard, too, but they also pushed me to be more creative, both with my outfits and my photography. I’m not a huge fan of style blogs, so I worried a lot about boring people, but it worked out ok I guess. 🙂

  3. Really!? Your blog is only a year old – blimey!
I hope you have plenty of me-made-tops for March (IIRC you felt a bit groundhog day last time ;))?

Re: Tyo – I’m sending her happy thoughts 🙂 (When in my teens I had a friend with suspected appendicitis – she went into hospital and they managed to bring down the fever etc. with medication alone & kept her under close observation only, no surgery needed).

    • Yeah, this worries me a bit, too… I have more than I did, but still not a huge number. Also, I got to wear some of my summer stuff a bit in September, that’s not going to happen in March, which is still more snow than not.

Tyo has no fever and her blood test showed no sign of infection, which has them a bit flummoxed. Especially when she was rating her pain consistently at 8 or 9 out of 10. Were headed back later this morning.

I’m looking forward to seeing your garments as worn – I think this always adds another, interesting dimension to sewing blogs. Best wishes for your daughter – I hope the situation clears up soon!

  5. Poor thing. Hope she feels better again soon!

Doing a SSS sounds like so much fun, but I’m afraid I don’t have enough garments made yet to make it through the month without starting to feel a bit.. euhm.. icky. Or doing laundry 24-7 ofcourse, hoping to have lots of sun to get everything dry in time. I think I’ll wait another year.

By the way, if you would start making people skinny trousers, where would I have to sign up? 😉

    • I definitely was doing a lot of laundry… I was going to do the light challenge (one me made item per day) but when I actually took stock of my me-made wardrobe, people commented that that it was as many clothes as they had in their daily rotation, so I stepped it up. Some people also include thrifted clothes, but if I went that far it would be 90% of my wardrobe! 😉

See my response to Kristin (Q&S) about the jeans ;)… Unless you want to come visit! 😀

Oh, the poor little thing! 😦 I hope they get everything figured out soon and that it’s not anything major (like appendicitis, eek!).

Maybe by May I’ll be ready to participate in a me-made-month challenge, but I’m not anywhere close yet. I can’t believe it’s only been a year that you’ve been blogging.

  7. Poor Tyo! I hope she feels back to normal really soon – and I hope the stress of it isn’t too unbearable for you!

Congrats on your almost 1 year. What a great achievement!

  8. I hope tyo gets better soon and doesn’t need surgery!!! I just recently started blogging myself…. I think so many of us have recently started sewing and blogland is our “sewing circle”. You’ve got to admit that it is pretty cool to get help/ideas/inspiration from someone halfway around the world from you!

  9. What a horrible day for you all. I hope Tyo is better soon.
I enjoy your blog, and look forward to seeing your me-made-March.

  10. Oh no! Poor Tyo, tell her that some random person in Georgia, USA says get better quick. Appendicitis is no joke.

As for your blog, a whole YEAR? Wow. You are cool people and I like sharing your little corner of the digital world.

  11. Hope Tyo gets better fast ! Happy Blogiversary !

I am not sure I have ever commented here but have been a reader for some time now. How exciting for your one year!!! I am ready to see how you do with the march challenge. I would LOVE to try that some time but right now I have so few items I could never do it. I am working on getting my spring/summer clothes sewn up so maybe I can be more ready for a summer challenge. Thanks for your wonderful blog!

  13. Hope TYO is feeling better!!!
