Butterick 3364 muslin---waiting to be fitted.
I ask you, people, if YOU had your very own personal, dedicated seamstress/sex-slave (oops, did I type that out loud?) in YOUR house working her poor little fingers to the pin-pricked bone to make you a muslin for a dress shirt with your EXACT FAVOURITE details—band collar, no pockets—fitted to your exact, freakish body, just waiting to be translated into an array of final fabulous fabrics… would you be snoozing on the couch all afternoon while the light fades away? When she actually finished the muslin the NIGHT BEFORE, and you refused to try it on then… and again this morning when you got up… and now it’s almost suppertime and you’re still refusing?!?!
Honestly! Why do I bother again?
… oh, yeah. I’m insanely, madly in love with him. And he’s going to look HAWT in this shirt.
Doesn’t mean I have to like it, though.
I think I’ll go make myself another circle skirt.

Your shirt looks fantastic, you’ll feel so much pride when your man wears that shirt and gets complemented on it! He’ll feel proud too when he tells whomever that his GORGEOUS WIFE made it for him!
I just finished my Negroni shirt this afternoon and despite the fact that the arms appear to be 2 inches too long, it turned out great.
and here I was hoping that the rest of your post would somehow pertain to “Men, It’s Raining”. Tsk. Disappointed. 😉 I don’t eve TRY to sew for my rotten husband, because he’s a totally hopeless case when it comes to clothes. He’ll only wear beige, to start with…

Sadly(?) it’s been very close to a dozen years since it was raining men around here… 😉
Ha! I’d so shrink every other shirt he has in the wash! And I think Beangirl has a point about “seamstressing” 🙂
Well, if I haven’t managed to shrink them yet I fear there’s not much more that can be done… He is always complaining the sleeves are too short already! 🙂

I’m so afraid to sew for my husband! The few things I have made (like underwear) have not been a hit and it’s depressing. I say you should hold out on the sex until he tries the shirt on… just a thought.

How funny, and sad to say, familiar. Why is lying on the couch so much more appealing than trying on a muslin? I don’t understand either. I’m so glad my husband is not the only one who seems to think that he is doing ME a favour when I make him something – until it is actually finished. You will look terrific in your next circle skirt anyway….
I feel your pain, sometimes men just aren’t nearly as cooperative as we’d like them to be. Hmph!
That is no muslin! That is a shirt! It has a collar and cuffs and sleeve plackets and top-stitching. Tell me you did not do all that meticulous topstitching from your last post on a mere muslin! Or I might just … I don’t know, go stand in a corner and hang my head in shame or something.
If he doesn’t want to try the muslin-that-is-no-muslin, he can continue to wear RTW shirts with sleeves that are too short. At least that’s what I would tell him.
Well, I had been hoping it would be a wearable muslin until I screwed up the collar so thoroughly. I was thinking of it as “techniques practice” if that helps 😉

Oh my. My morning update came in and I nearly spit my coffee all over the computer screen. This rant sounds eerily familiar!
The time I asked my husband to try on the winter hats I was making for him (his request mind you!) he acted as if it was some kind of torture method. I don’t know why men don’t want to try on clothes since they can be so results oriented in so many other areas. Your shirt looks awesome! Crisp white shirts are so beautiful. You have done a great job!
Hmmm… I’ve been so bogged down with office-work & household chores that I’ve not even started the muslin for my hubby’s Negroni shirt (my bad :() – so good for you, bus bad for him for not assisting your quest for super-shirtdom.
I suspect that this is a Y-based chromsome trait, and that I shall experience similar behaviour from his nibs later on!!!
Well, at least I’m not alone! He deigned to try the shirt on last night, eventually, after the kids were in bed—and then wouldn’t let me take pictures! Grr it’s hard to assess fit all in the five seconds he’s willing to wear the damned thing. The collar was too tight, I remember that much, and the sleeves were long enough. Everything else? Who knows! 😛

When I sew something for Mister, he’s over-eager and cannot wait to go to the fabric store. He even reads the instructions of the patterns and is happy to try out anything muslin-ish, even 10 times…
The only issue is that, as a researcher in real life, he gives a lot of attention to details and asks me so many questions! I sometime want to tell him that, if he knows better, he should try it himself! Grrrrrrrrrrr!
We have just bought fabric for the Negroni and I can already see the constructive criticism coming 😉 But then again, when it’s done, he acts like a little boy that received his favorite LEGO set for Christmas! So worth it!
LOL! Sounds like he needs his own sewing machine, then you could work on stuff together!
